Barrie-based Prodomax Automation, a subsidiary of the Jenoptik Group, has won two new contracts together worth more than €12 million in North America, underlining a strong order entry start in 2019.

As a specialized industrial engineering firm, the first Prodomax order is from a major Tier 1 automotive client (unnamed) for two of their manufacturing plants located in the southern United States. The scope of supply includes several assembly lines incorporating state-of-the-art material processing and material handling solutions. The second order is for an assembly project to be delivered and commissioned in mid-2019 for a production increase on a successful General Motors program.

Jenoptik acquired Prodomax in mid-2018, the latest in a series of acquisitions that began with Five Lakes Automation in 2017. Known as a long-time player the automotive market courtesy of their Light & Production division, Five Fingers became a part of Jenoptik Group’s Global Laser Processing business and will offer various laser processing technologies.

Prodomax employs about 180 staff and specializes in process automation for the automotive industry. At the time of the acquisition, as reported by optics.org, Jenoptik said it was strengthening its position as a full-service turnkey provider of complex automated manufacturing solutions.

Jenoptik and Prodomax have already collaborated on engineering technical solutions for their combined customer base. The automation experience of Prodomax and the laser processing expertise of Jenoptik together facilitate end-to-end application solutions in the North American automotive supply marketplace.
